The Kelsey Briggs Foundation
Founded for Kelsey. Dedicated to ending child abuse.
Who is the Kelsey Briggs Foundation?
The Kelsey Briggs Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, founded in 2009 for 2-year-old Kelsey Briggs of Meeker, Oklahoma. She was a victim of child abuse and ultimately was killed in 2005 in her Meeker home. We are committed to the prevention of all forms of child abuse and neglect. Central to the mission is the promotion of healthy, nurturing relationships between children and adults. Through education, collaboration, and advocacy, the foundation provides programs and events which foster the well-being of children and families throughout the nation. Child abuse prevention is accomplished through education, training, and promoting public awareness.
We are working on several projects. In May of 2011, we will award the annual Kelsey Briggs Memorial Scholarship. This will go to a high school senior who will be attending college for a degree in a field which helps children, such as: counseling, teaching, social work, etc. We are also working on a child abuse prevention package for distribution to lower elementary students and also for professional development for teachers. We hold community events throughout the year on the prevention and education of child abuse. We also are available for speaking engagements and school assemblies.
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. and we hold an annual community child abuse prevention and safety day in Shawnee, Oklahoma. It is free to the community. The annual Golf Fore Child Abuse Prevention 4 Man Scramble and the Annual Kelsey Briggs Run Against Child Abuse are our main fundraisers and draw a lot of people from all over the state of Oklahoma and out of state as well. Every December we hold our annual Christmas toy drive called Toys For Kelsey’s Kids. We have partnered with The Hope House and Youth and Family Services in Shawnee, Oklahoma. They will receive the donated toys.
